Cover Letter Resources
Write a focused application that connects your experience to the employer’s needs.
Make each application specific
A cover letter explains why your evidence fits this particular role. It should add context rather than repeat your CV. Follow the vacancy’s instructions about email subject, attachments, reference number and length. If a letter is not requested, a concise application email may be enough.

Tailoring checklist
- Identify the employer’s three most important requirements and choose genuine evidence for each.
- Use the exact role title and reference. Research the organisation through its original website.
- Replace generic praise with one specific reason for applying.
- Keep paragraphs short and remove claims you could not defend in an interview.
- Check attachments, filename and recipient domain before sending. Do not email sensitive documents to an unverified recruiter.
