Recruitment Scam Protection

Check the employer, protect your information and report suspicious opportunities.

Pause when the process feels wrong

  • A demand to pay an agent for an interview, shortlist, guaranteed appointment or special access.
  • An offer without a credible recruitment process, urgent payment pressure or instructions to keep the arrangement secret.
  • A look-alike domain, unrelated personal account or messaging-only application without confirmation from the employer.
  • Requests for bank login details, OTPs, BVN, NIN or identity documents before you have established the organisation and the legitimate need.
  • A real company name or logo is not enough. Scammers can copy both. A working link is not proof of a genuine vacancy.

Employer verification checklist

  • Find the employer’s website independently. Look for the exact role, location and application instructions on its careers page.
  • Compare the domain carefully, including spelling and subdomains. HTTPS alone does not establish authenticity.
  • Confirm third-party recruiters through the employer’s official contact details where possible. Do not rely only on the contact supplied in the suspicious message.
  • Check the deadline, role title and destination of the application button. A generic jobs page does not establish that the specific vacancy is open.
  • Share only necessary documents after checking the recipient and privacy terms. Mask identifiers where appropriate.
  • JobLink has no recruitment agents. Report anyone claiming payment is required to secure a JobLink opportunity.

Report a suspicious opportunity

For a JobLink vacancy, use its Report a job link or the report page below. Include the listing identifier, exact suspicious URL and a factual description. For a message or opportunity without a JobLink listing identifier, use the contact form.

Do not post passwords, OTPs, bank details, identity numbers or unredacted private documents in a report. Keep original messages and payment evidence privately. If you have paid or shared sensitive information, promptly contact the relevant bank or service through independently verified channels.

For suspicious messages or opportunities without a listing identifier. Do not send sensitive documents.

What verification labels mean

An original employer notice check records an inspection of the employer’s notice. It is not employer endorsement of JobLink or a guarantee of employment. A third-party job-board listing has not been independently employer-confirmed. Awaiting verification means more evidence is needed. Always recheck the original application instructions before applying.
